About The Band
Tequila Mockingbird was originally formed in Columbia, IL in 2015 after Chuck and Garys original band (Butterfly Distortion) dis-banded. After experiencing the ups and downs associated with playing original music they decided to make a shift and try their hand as a cover band. They started up Tequila Mockingbird (Called Liquid Courage for a brief time) as a rock cover band. Rather than focusing an a particular era of rock music they cast a wider net and embraced rock music from many eras. Chuck (Bass) and Gary (Guitar) where joined early on by Mike (Vocals). Ken came in soon after on drums, and Dan came in a little later, replacing the original guitarist on lead guitar, to form Tequila Mockingbird as it is today. Tequila Mockingbird performs primarily in the St. Louis metro-area covering a wide variety of rock tunes they all grew up with, from the 70's 80's 90's and 2000's. Some of the bands covered are Tom Petty, Foo Fighters, Green Day, Weezer, Van Halen, Metallica, ZZ Top, Ozzy....and many more. Look for us at a venue near you.
Mike - Vocals
Mike Joined the band early on after some casual conversations with Chuck during their kids soccer practices and a random phone call from Chuck made in the middle of one of the rehearsals. A week later Mike showed up at rehearsal not sure what he was getting into but excited to give it a go. He's been the voice of Tequila Mockingbird ever since. Sammy Hagar and Rush are a couple of Mike's favorite bands.
Dan - Lead / Rythm Guitar
Dan entered Tequila Mockingbird through Gary. They had met originally through a common friend and since then had been in and out of various one off jams, and gigs, through the years. Dan entered Tequila Mockingbird after he mentioned to Gary he was looking for a new project. It just so happened the bands original lead guitar player was moving on and was stepping down. The timing was perfect and the relationship was already there, so adding Dan to the mix was an easy call. Dan is the youngest of the group but has an old soul as it pertains to music. Dan also is one of only members to have had formal music education.
Gary - Rythm / Lead Guitar
Gary is one of the founding member of the band, starting it up with Chuck after the original band they started (Butterfly Distortion) ran it's course. After navigating the challenges of performing as an original music act they decided to try their hand in the cover band scene. Gary started in the music scene later than most not learning the instrument till he was in his early 30's . Gary leans towards the heavier side of music with some of his favorite bands being Iron Maiden, Metallica, Foo Fighters and Vol Beat.
Chuck - Bass
Chuck is also a founding member of the band starting it up with Gary after the original band he and Gary started (Butterfly Distortion) ran it's course. After navigating the challenges of performing as an original music act they decided to try their hand in the cover band scene. Chuck also started in the music scene later than most picking up the instrument in his late 20's. Chuck likes a wide variety of music but he enjoys playing pop-punk the most. Some of Chucks favorite bands are Foo Fighters, Weezer, Green Day and the Offspring.
Ken - Drums
Ken joined Tequila Mockingbird after the band struggled through a few drummers trying to get the right fit. Ken came to the band through his connection with Mikes older brother. Ken has been drumming since his grade school days . He was part of the Marching Illini drum line and the University of Illinois basketball band. He also studying music at U of I. Ken was a great fit for the band and has been keeping them it time ever since. Some of Kens favorite drummers include Niel Peart of Rush, Alex Van Halen of Van Halen, Matt Cameron of Soundgarden, and John Bonham of Led Zepplin.
